Leica presents the new Leica Geovid R models

High-performance optical systems, precise distance measurement, best value for money

Leica Geovid binoculars have been a reliable companion of passioned hunters for decades. Tens of thousands of hunters around the world relay on the pioneer of rangefinding. First presented in 1992, revised and revolutionised many times, Leica now presents a new member of the highly successful Geovid family of binoculars: the Leica Geovid R models. They unite superior optical performance and long-established, proven laser technology at an incomparably reasonable price and are the ideal way to open the door for newcomers to the world of Leica Geovid binoculars.

The new Leica Geovid R binoculars concentrate on essentials – a high-performance optical system, reliable distance measurement and ballistic angle compensation. What’s more, the Geovid R models offer comfortable viewing for longer periods of observation, classical, ergonomic design for optimum grip and fatigue-free viewing, as well as uncompromising quality in construction and finish. All models feature a comfortably wide field of view and are ideal for scanning broad terrain. Leica Geovid R 56 binoculars are a dependable companion in unfavourable light, the low contrast of dawn and dusk and at particularly long distances. They impress with maximum light-gathering performance, high resolving power for a clear and detailed view and a large exit pupil and, if required, magnification factors of up to 15x.

‘With the newly developed Leica Geovid R models, we concentrate intensely on our core values: high-performance optical systems, maximum optical and mechanical reliability, precise distance measurement and rock solid ballistics. Thanks to highly-efficient manufacturing processes and concentration on essentials, we have been able to create a product with unique performance for the asking price. Now, no one will have to choose between conventional binoculars or a rangefinder any more´, explains Marcus Zeidler, Head of Product Management Leica Sport Optics (Wetzlar).

The Leica Geovid R 42 binoculars are available with 8x and 10x magnification at prices from 1,750 euros (RRP) and the prices for the Leica Geovid R 56 binoculars with 8 and 15x begin at 2,000 euros (RRP).

All Leica Geovid R binoculars stand for outstanding optical performance in all viewing situations. Their high contrast and edge-to-edge image sharpness ensure identification of even the smallest details. The brightness of the LED display adjusts automatically to ambient lighting conditions and shows the measured distance values with optimum brightness and clarity in all conditions.

The Leica Geovid R displays linear distances for a measuring range of up to 1100 metres (1200 yards). All models also feature the EHR ballistics function that allows the user to display the equivalent horizontal range for angle shots for distances from 10 metres/yards to 550 metres/600 yards. The algorithm developed by Leica always takes the linear distance and angle into account. Users enjoy the benefits of precise measuring results and significantly greater certainty of an ethically placed shot. No previous knowledge of ballistics is required when using the EHR function. The display appears at the single press of a button. Pre-setting or pre-programming is not required.

The design and the controls of the Leica Geovid R range are dedicated to fulfilling needs of users and frequent use under even the toughest viewing conditions. The die-cast aluminium chassis and the eyepieces are enclosed in impact-absorbing armouring to protect the binoculars against damage. In conjunction with the ergonomic form of the binoculars, this armouring provides outstanding grip and ensures safe and steady holding – like all true Leica Geovids.
