The Leica Gallery has been run in partnership with Leica Camera since 1994 and is closely linked to the company. The gallery has become a leading location for both traditional and modern photojournalism in the New York gallery scene. The gallery is located in an historic building in Greenwich Village that is listed in the records of the American Institute of Architects. Since its foundation, the gallery has housed more than 90 exhibitions, including pictures by renowned photographers such as Alfred Eisenstaedt, Ralph Gibson, Leonard Freed, Alex Webb, Erich Hartmann, and Karl Lagerfeld.

Current exhibition "Dutch" - Carlos René Perez

Carlos René Perez recalls that the first version of Dutch was completed in 1981. The work's genesis was a dream about abandoned toys on a sidewalk. The dream became reality when he discovered the toys behind a failing Woolworth down the street from his apartment. These first toys were soon joined by many more. Some he found, but many, Perez says, "seem to have just appeared on their own."
Twenty-eight years later, the narrative-photographic story Dutch finally raises the curtain on all the players. Perez says that Dutch took form as he placed the toys on a table and, "they took on a life of their own, revealing odd relationships and circumstances that have always surprised me."
Dutch is framed by a Raymond Chandler-styled noir short story featuring a cub reporter who interviews a talking cat in New York City's West Village.
The cat's story, visualized in seventy-seven high-resolution color photographs, tells of a ceramic Dutch Boy who, dissatisfied with his life, ventures across the table to find love and adventure.
