Oskar Barnack Prize
The coveted prize for professional photographers

The highly esteemed and coveted international award for high quality reportage photography has been presented since 1979, the year marking the 100th year anniversary of the birth of Oskar Barnack. The prize is awarded by Leica Camera AG in cooperation with the organization committee of Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie, Arles (France) and is presented in the sum of 5,000 Euro or a Leica system of the same value.

ENTRY REGULATION

The international photography competition for professional photographers takes place annually. Participants must send in a photo reportage portfolio containing up to 12 current pictures.

 

WINNER 2007

Brasilian photographer Julio Bittencourt has won the prestigious Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2007 with his photo report of inhabitants of a house occupied by homeless people in downtown São Paulo.

WINNER 2006

Chilean photographer Tomas Munita has won the prestigious Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2006 with his photo report ‘Kabul — Leaving the Shadows’.

WINNER 2005

With his outstanding photo reportage »Johannesburg Story«, the South African photographer Guy Tillim won the Leica Oskar Barnack Prize in 2005.
